General Audition Information
2006-2007 season
(Specific audition times by appointment)

SYSO invites students in sixth through tenth grade to audition for the Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra. Auditions will be held by appointment in the Orland Park area on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10, 2006. Please phone (708) 744-0462 to schedule your audition.

Additional auditions are usually held in September, and as needed to fill vacant seats. To inquire about vacancies between September 2006 and May 2007, please email asksyso@hotmail.com

Who can audition?
Students in sixth through tenth grade who play an orchestral instrument are encouraged to audition.

Is there a membership fee for joining SYSO?
Yes. Tuition for SYSO is $300 per year, and includes 2 free adult tickets to three concerts.

Membership in the SYSO also includes a two-month chamber music experience as part of the program, inspiring you to achieve a higher level of musical growth and responsibility. Each member is assigned to a small group of chamber players, based on compatible skill levels. The ensembles are given chamber music at the appropriate level and are coached by professional musicians during regular rehearsals. At the end of the unit, groups will give a public chamber music performance.

What are the other qualifications?
All participants must be actively involved in their school music programs if such programs exist. Attendance at all weekly rehearsals and performances is mandatory, with two exceptions: illness, and music-related functions at which your attendance is required by your school.
