March 18, 2006 SYSO and the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra are sponsoring the Southland High School Orchestra Festival. The festival orchestra is designed to be a balanced string orchestral ensemble with roughly equal representation of the participating area high schools and the Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra. This invitational festival is an all-day event, ending in a 4:30 PM concert at The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University. Under the direction of Philip Bauman, participants will perform the following selections at the concert: Brahms' Academic Overture, Dvorak's Slavonic Dances No. 1 & 3, op. 46, and Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, 1st Movement. The Suburban Youth Philharmonic will also perform at this event. All tickets are $5.00.
