Do-It-Yourself
Messiah
Sunday, December 4, 2005 3:00pm Faith United Protestant Church 10 Hemlock St. Park Forest, IL 60466 [map and directions] Each December the SYSO, in conjunction with the Park Forest Rotary, performs a Do-It-Yourself Messiah. Proceeds are used for the special needs of children in the communities the Rotary serves, and the SYSO is proud to help them meet their goals through its participation. After the performance, all attendees are invited to join our impromptu Holiday Party at Fuddruckers Restaurant, 300 Town Center, Matteson (708) 747-7763. 15% of sales between 5 and 9PM will be donated to SYSO. February event is arranged by the SYSO Board of Directors,
and invitations are sent to supporters as well as to community
leaders and business people. Our chamber groups play, and
their families are asked to support this endeavor through
their attendance and assistance in arranging the details of
the afternoon event which is held at Waterford Estates in
Hazel Crest. Music
in the Mall
Date and Time TBA All orchestra members participate by playing this event which is held at Lincoln Mall in Matteson. Historically, participants have found this a rewarding experience which provides an excellent opportunity for showcasing our orchestras in the community. Musical ensembles made up of orchestra members are invited to participate in a number of special events in the area. Since the advent of our three-concert subscription series, these talented groups will have the opportunity to accept more invitations and to play for more occasions. Each year the SYSO has been invited to perform for groups in the Chicago metropolitan area. This performance requires a day away from school and involves a special outing before or after the concert. This year's outreach concert will be held in March or April with the exact date to be determined. Every spring the SYSO Association awards a number of scholarships. Some of these are awarded to senior year SYSO students selected by the staff. Some of the remaining scholarships are given to non-seniors in the SYSO and some are awarded to SYS members. These are intended for music camp or for music lessons. An application form is required for all the non-senior scholarships. Additional information concerning scholarships will be distributed later in the season. |
